Pain Medicine Consultation and Treatment

At Desert Pain Specialists, we offer an extraordinary, comprehensive, multi-disciplinary medical team approach to chronic pain management which we would like to share with you.

Our objective is to return your patients to a productive life and restore their physical, leisure and psychosocial function. We want to put your patients back in control of their lives instead of allowing “pain to run their life”.

Chronic pain by definition is any non-malignant, painful medical condition of different etiologies which has persisted more than three to six months, in spite of appropriate conventional medical management. Chronic pain is also characterized by its adverse impact on different aspects of a patient’s life, not only medically but also physically, psychosocially, leisurely and vocationally. Many patients with chronic pain are dependent on large amounts of narcotic analgesics, tranquilizers, and/or muscle relaxants and are often also experiencing anxiousness and depression.

Our program is designed to systematically and thoroughly evaluate and address all aspects of chronic pain syndrome from diagnosis to management of its consequences and complications. Our services include:

Evaluation

Evaluation starts with a review of available medical records; performing a very detailed and thorough history-taking; and, a medical examination by one of our well-qualified providers.

A full medical work up and additional consultations (as needed) with other medical specialists (such as orthopedics, neurosurgery, internal medicine, etc) is also done to prevent the possible oversight of any etiologies which may be cured or significantly improved by conventional medical or surgical treatments.

Once the patient is diagnosed with Chronic Pain Syndrome and after he or she signs a Pain Management Contract/Agreement, a well structured, closely monitored, individually tailored, multi-disciplinary pain program begins as follows:

Medication Management and Medical Follow-up

Our goal is to keep patients on a minimum effective dose of analgesics along with other appropriate medications. Weekly to monthly medical follow-up is indicated to prescribe titrate and monitor or maintain appropriate medications including narcotic analgesics, antidepressants, etc.

Interventional Pain Management

Various therapeutic pain injections are available to patients who qualify. These injections and blocks include:

  • Botulinum Toxin
  • Caudal Epidural Injection
  • Sympathetic Nerve Block
  • Cervical Epidural Injection
  • Cervical, Thoracic and Lumbar Facet Joint Injection
  • Discography
  • Cervical, Thoracic and Lumbar Medial Branch Block

  • Sacroiliac Joint Steroid Injection
